Vegetarians will be happy about this option, but not necessarily vegans.

VEGANS AND VEGETARIANS UNITE!

FINALLY A PLANT BASED PROTIEN COFFEE...said no one ever. Look, I used to be a vegetarian and I hardly eat meat as it is now...so, this actually does speak to me. If you don't have meat for your protien, it's nice to know there are options out there that cater to those that don't enjoy consuming dairy in their morning cup of joe. These days almond milk is all the rage anyway, so kudos to Starbucks ( not to mention a strategic marketing plan) for jumping on board the trend.

The coffee chain has of new blended icy beverages on the menu that has added protien. The Almond Protein Blended Cold Brew and Cacao Protein Blended Cold Brew are both dairy-free, but that doesn’t mean they’re vegan. (There's a catch)

Both drinks ARE plant-based and are made of all certified vegan ingredients. This is something that Starbucks has never tried before now. The Almond Protein Blended Cold Brew contains Starbucks Cold Brew, almond milk, plant-based protein, almond butter, Banana Date Fruit Blend, and ice and the Cacao drink combines Starbucks Cold Brew, coconut milk, plant-based protein, cacao powder, Banana Date Fruit Blend, and ice and sells for $5.95.

And all of the ingredients in the standard recipes for the Protein Blended Cold Brew drinks are certified vegan, but the drinks aren't necessarily. Starbucks isn’t considered to be strictly vegan because drinks are prepared using shared equipment and tools that may also be used to prepare non-vegan drinks. So because cross-contamination is possible, the final beverages are not certified vegan. But if you’re a vegan who’s okay with that, then you should be good to go.

Let's try it!
